So hi there all.x
Our single launch down @ the fly in London went bloody lovely:)
unfortunately, I somehow bust my phone (I reckon on the way back where we got VERY drunk with the help of the amber stuff…..no not wee you sicko! that’s gross). As such. the vids, photos etc are useless coz I cant get to em! arg!!!! So I will have to tell the story just from my memory……oh dear!
We will be getting some proper gig shots soon from our lovely friends who were taking them for us but at the mo they are being edited so you cant see them
…yet. On that note. We would love to see your photos for the day! And would love to get them up on our page! If you have a selection of choice moments you’d like to share with us, send em over to us so we can see them! Also if you took any live shots of JWP on stage, get them over to us too please! band@james-warner.co.uk
But, The day……
So we started off far too early (I aint a morning flower) and got on the coach with sleep in our eyes and thoughts of a bacon buttie. We picked all up and after a school type register (in which I insisted on being called Mr Brown….or Sir….. to which I was ignored……) we took our full coach of gigee’s down to London. Woop!
The coach, it has to be said, kinda worried me. At times we were driving at pretty much walking speed on the M1! Which was a bit of an issue as you can imagine! When the driver was asked why he was doing this, he kinda got a bit embarrassed and claimed the bus had just been in the garage so he didn’t know, but rest assured we would make it. I figured we should take him at his word and went back to playin eye spy (ignorance is bliss after all). After a bit, it seemed about the right time to get the kettle on n crack out the JWP cakes!
The coach had a tea coffee thingy so me and my dad got the orders in, and got everyone a cuppa and then my lovely other half, eve, who had made a load of cakes with JWP written on em (yup! We are that rock n roll!) Gave em out to the possie☺ mmmmmmmm.
A while later we made a stop at the services. Being as a bacon buttie was off the menu due to lack of available pig goodness, me and Matt settled for a breakfast Burger King (they make a lovely cuppa tea!) and feeling totally ashamed of our selves, we got back on the bus and continued with the eye spy.
We made good time and arrived with no problems (which is odd when I’m involved!) at around 12noon. Ready to do the tourist thing☺
Every one on the bus helped us with our gear into the venue who, when fronted by 40 folk with guitars n boxes quite rightly shit themselves and asked, very nicely, “are you the band?”. When we replied with “no, not everyone is” an unmistakable look of relief burst across their faces and then followed a request for us to leave, as quick as poss. Then we all parted for the day with hugs and merriment!
The JWP gang spent the pretty much all day wondering around the area looking in music shops and slobbering on stuff we cannot afford…..yet….
I did my good deed for the day which was to take a razor blade that Matt spotted on a piano stool waiting for someone to sit on, to the shop owners which I have to say I kinda regretted coz I could of sat on it n got loadsa money! (where there’s a blame there’s a claim!) Also would of made a pretty ‘rock’ story….arg! but maybe next time.
Then we went for some lunch…..a burger…….fat bastards!……they claimed it was the best burger in the world……it wasn’t…..not bad though.
Then we met a guy called Thad. Who we hope will be helping us in the future. Nuff said for the moment. He had a nice hat. It was fluffy.
When we had finished chatting to Thad, we said good bye and legged it down stairs for our sound check. Said hello to the other bands who all seemed very nice☺ I had a ARGGGG! Moment when I thought my amp had died again but it was me being a dumb ass and putting things in wrong holes…….don’t read into that….. And we had our very loud check. ☺
The back stage ‘Area’ has shrunk since the last time we went there. It is now a cupboard! Forget a glass full of brown M n M’s we would have been happy with a room!:) But mops and buckets pushed aside, we fitted our kit into the ‘Backstage’ and went up stairs for some wind down time.
I went over the road to a lovely pub where some of the posse was gathering and had a couple of nerve calmers and had a moment of realisation of the prices in our wonderful capital city! I bought a round of 3 drinks (thank god the others already had drinks coz wouldn’t of been able to afford it!) it cost me £11.90!!!!! Which made me bankrupt for the day having already over spent on food☺. Luckily I had already bought a bottle of whiskey for the journey home☺
We went over to The Fly, (which is a great little venue I thought☺ I liked the paintings on the walls myself), and had a lovely time mingling and listening to some great music! A particular fav of mine was ‘Kids In Cars’☺ woop! Met some lovely people and had a great time!!!
So, SHOW TIME!
First off, we had some awesome help from our lot, getting on, set up, and getting up our banner! Thanks guys!!! (OOOOh yes! The banner!, A massive fancy thing we have just had done!!! Thanks to ‘POSITIVE DESIGN’ for this lovely ☺)
The show started right on time. We were VERY loud for this gig☺ and Went for it with all of our great London buzz! The room was packed, the people we’re lovely!!! Again, thanks guys! And a Big ta to the folk who didn’t know us!:) hoped yaz enjoyed it! We had a great time! I fell into the drum kit (sorry to the volt guys:/) at the end which most people thought id done on purpose! ( ……no……it hurt……fuck rock n roll!☺)
We stormed through our set leaving a room that thumped like my heartbeat! Lovely☺
After standing on my guitars and getting help from our lot to get off, we did the cool down, natter to people and start to get drunk, thing….ahhhh. I met a lovely geeza called Simon who makes amazing guitars out of recycled bottles and cd’s (yup you read it right☺) hopefully you will see much more about him and his guitars, in the next few months. Now, at this point The Volt were on, a very good tight band with some great tracks but I was bleedin’ knackered! So couldn’t do too much watching to be honest so I concentrated on getting drunk. Then what seemed like a couple of seconds passed and I got a call from Keith (our bus driver) saying he was outside! So rallied the troops…or they rallied me should I say☺ and all got on the bus to ride home!
After another register type thingy (I didn’t bother with the ‘call me sir!’ thing this time☺), We cracked open the bottles of whiskey we had bought earlier and then,……..erm……..cant really remember much after this………… bits n bobs……… but I shall wait to see the photos☺
The next I knew, I woke up at about 12 noon with a horrible hang over and sore bruising on my back☺ ,……..obviously, it had been a good night!
It was Valentines Day! And my lovely eve was next to me, also feeling rough……
I’m gonna stop there.
Thank you so much, again, to all who came along with us and just a quick plug for the next big day out! Which will be on SAT 12th SEPT 09. It will be a 14+ show! And we will be running a bargain coach with tea and cakes again☺
Let us know if your interested! Watch this space for new photos from the gig and from the other stuff we are up to!
Just another quick reminder to anyone with photos from London, please send over a selection to us (band@james-warner.co.uk) and we can have a smile and stick em up on the page!
Word all yo bad selfs!!!!
Mwa.xxx Joe + JWP
P.S. I wrote this bit after just being reminded about something
When we played our song ‘Fashionable Place of Birth’, some fookin stunner had bought a blow up banana in the day time:)!!! So this little beasty got thrown around the room to the sound of our noise. That was awesome!
‘av a banana’!
made us smile:)
